On Friday, our first day
of "retirement", we visited the Black Creek property, and the boat ramp at
the "Outpost", a nearby watering hole and biker-bar, with our friends John
& LeAnn Elliott, visiting all the way from Apple Valley, California.
(If you're wondering where John is in this photo, he's behind me on dry
land, where LeAnn & Robert can't feed him to the alligators and water
moccasins which we told him were waiting for him in Black Creek.)
Yesterday we drove to
Apalachicola, Florida, a sweet little town in "Old Florida", which sits
very picturesquely along the mouth of the Apalachee River . LeAnn &
took a walk through the neighborhoods, full of quaint southern homes
with wrap-around porches
complete with rocking chairs and porch swings, and beautiful old trees.
I think this is a particularly handsome old cedar. We also
stopped for coffee and hand-made chocolates at a local shop.
of course, a trip to Apalachicola wouldn't be complete without a stop at
Popeye's Fried Chicken in Panama City Beach, for Robert's favorite chicken
